Apple integrates CryptoKit tools in iOS 13
Apple is preparing to announce the CryptoKit toolkit for “secure and efficient cryptographic transactions.” The Block draws attention to this.
CryptoKit will be available to users on the iOS 13 operating system. Employees of the company will talk about the capabilities of the new tools on June 5 during the speech “Cryptography and Your Applications” at the WWDC 2019 event taking place these days..
CryptoKit will enable developers to perform basic cryptographic operations including hashing and key generation. This, in turn, will help automate the execution of tasks aimed at increasing the security of applications without having to resort to low-level interfaces..
As follows from the publication on the Apple website, CryptoKit supports the following features:
- Calculation and comparison of message fingerprints protected by cryptography;
- Using public key cryptography to create and evaluate digital signatures and key exchange. In addition to the public keys stored in the device’s memory, the user will be able to interact with private keys, which are managed using the Secure Enclave system, which is used today, for example, to work with Touch ID;
- Generation of encryption / decryption keys and their use in operations such as message authentication and encryption.
As the co-founder of the Open Money Initiative Alejandro Machado explained, this initiative will significantly expand the capabilities of cryptocurrency developers: “For the first time, developers will be able to use Secure Enclave to manage user keys using the iPhone, which will achieve security levels comparable to hardware wallets.”.
